My professional experience

I am a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, specialising in the diagnostic assessment of children and young people with possible Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASCs). I currently work in the NHS as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the Lifespan ASC and Learning Disabilities Service at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, where I lead the ASC diagnostic assessment clinic. I am trained and experienced in the use of well established diagnostic assessment tools including the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule 2 (ADOS 2), the Autism Diagnostic Interview (ADI) and the Developmental, Dimensional & Diagnostic Interview (3Di). I run training courses in the ADOS 2, which are attended by professionals from across the UK.  I am also highly experienced  in the management of other neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD.

In addition to diagnosis, I am interested in a range of therapeutic approaches to supporting children, adolescents and adults with ASC and other developmental conditions (for example ADHD), who experience emotional issues. I have a diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from the Anna Freud Centre, and have also trained in Mentalisation Based Therapy and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.

I qualified as a doctor at Cambridge University and University College London, and subsequently trained in psychiatry at the Royal Free Hospital and completed higher training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Tavistock Clinic in London.

Additional information about my teaching, publications and interests

I have a strong interest in teaching doctors and mental health professionals, and I am the Training Programme Director for doctors training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Tavistock.  I was involved in developing the CYPIAPT national curriculum for mental health professionals supporting children with developmental conditions.  I have also presented at national conferences and published on this subject.
