My professional experience

I am a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with over 20 years’ experience in Child Psychiatry, most recently as the Lead Child Psychiatrist for Haringey.
I continue to work within the NHS as a Consultant Child Psychiatrist in the Paediatric Team at the North Middlesex Hospital, helping young people with chronic physical conditions or medically unexplained symptoms. I find it immensely rewarding to work alongside families that may have been derailed by a significant medical diagnosis and help them manage the subsequent impact on their lives.
Until recently I was also the Lead Psychiatrist at Haringey CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service). Having worked in that team for 13 years, I have a wealth of experience in assessing and treating the issues that can affect young people’s mental health, from the mild to severe. This includes ADHD, ASD, depression, anxiety, OCD and crisis support. I am also very skilled in managing complexity and co-morbidity.
I have training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-focused therapy and Family/Systemic Therapy. I have also recently been accredited in Motivational Interviewing skills.
I trained as a doctor at the Royal Free Hospital, before going onto further psychiatric training at the Royal Free, St Mary’s and Great Ormond Street Hospitals
Personal Approach

I have always found people and their stories fascinating, and I feel lucky that in my job I get to meet so many interesting young people and their families. I feel enormously privileged to be trusted by families to work alongside them when they need support for their mental health and emotional wellbeing, and to be able to impact and improve the trajectory of a young life.
I believe that by listening carefully and helping young people feel understood, I can better understand the best steps to take next, and we can work together to make those things happen. Alongside this, I am confident and skilled in making a diagnosis, and in the use of medication should it be needed. I am also very happy to work alongside colleagues in delivering therapeutic approaches. Additionally, I have extensive experience in writing reports and supporting families in navigating the services that they might need for their child.
